Honest pricing: why we cut our paid plans
We launched in October at $99 / $499 / Custom. As of last week we're at Free / $19.99 / $49.99 / $99.99 / Custom. That's a meaningful reduction. Why.
The original pricing was anchored on what we'd need for a healthy ARR per customer in a B2B context. The math made sense if we landed enterprise-sized customers from day one. We didn't. We landed smaller platform teams trying to add a wallet feature to an existing product, who balked at $99 for “a wallet API I haven't even built into my product yet.”
What we learned:
- The buying decision for crypto infra is “does this fit in my hobby budget” first, “does this scale with me” second. We had the second part right and the first part wrong.
- Free-tier-with-real-limits beats $99-trial-without-credit-card. People who can't commit $99 also won't commit a credit card to a trial.
- The shape of pricing matters more than the raw numbers. Five tiers that climb linearly feel honest. Three tiers with a 5x jump between them feel like sales-driven gates.
We're honoring grandfathered pricing for all October-November signups. Anyone who paid $99 for Starter when they could have paid $19.99 — your renewal credits the difference until you've recovered the gap.
